The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old Field Loan Officer (FLO) of Moniepoint, Thlakham Daniel, over an alleged fraud involving seven Point-of-Sale (POS) operators in Damaturu, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Ali, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 4, 2026.
According to the statement, the seven POS operators separately reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters, Damaturu, alleging that the suspect visited their businesses on different occasions and profiled their accounts under the pretext of helping them secure loans.
The operators alleged that the suspect subsequently obtained loans through their accounts without their knowledge or consent.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives of the Division immediately commenced investigation, traced and arrested the suspect along with one vehicle suspected to have been obtained from the proceeds of the crime,” the statement said.
The Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the total amount involved was about ₦74 million.
It added that the suspect confessed to the offence during interrogation, although investigations were still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the transactions and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, assured members of the public to exercise caution when sharing access to their bank and digital financial accounts and to promptly report suspicious transactions to the Police.
