Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has revealed that she has never asked a man for money while in a relationship despite what she described as a common practice among many Ghanaian women.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the “Jeje” hitmaker explained that she earns her own money and does not rely on men financially, even when dating wealthy partners.
“I’ve never asked any man for any amount of money before. When I’m dating a man, I don’t ask them for MoMo because I make my own money,” she stated.
According to Sista Afia, she appreciates gifts and support from partners, but she does not believe in demanding money from them.
“If you want to buy for me, I will appreciate it, but don’t expect me to ask you for it,” she added.
The singer further claimed that some Ghanaian men prefer women they can financially control.
She argued that some men feel uncomfortable when they meet hardworking women who are financially independent.
“Most Ghanaian men like to take care of a woman they can control. The IQ is low,” she said.
According to her, independent women should not be viewed as competitors in relationships.
The singer also disclosed that unlike many successful women who avoid dating corporate workers often referred to as “9 to 5” men, she is open to dating any type of man.
However, she admitted that she has struggled to find someone who understands her personality beyond her celebrity status.
Sista Afia clarified that she is currently not actively searching for a relationship.
She also described herself as someone who deeply values love, revealing that some men she dated found it difficult to believe that she genuinely loved them despite not asking them for money.
