Kirinyaga County – Police in Mwea have launched investigations into a tragic incident in Kamweli village, Makutano, after a couple were found dead in their house.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, 27 June, leaving residents of the quiet village reeling and prompting an outpouring of grief from family, friends and community members.

According to preliminary reports, a man allegedly killed his wife before he died shortly after, but the motive behind the tragedy remains unknown.

Police officers and detectives rushed to the scene and have since begun investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kerugoya Mortuary as investigators continued gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.

As news of the incident spread, heartfelt tributes poured in for the woman identified by friends as Christinah Kanini, affectionately known as Innah.

Justin Kinyua, who described the deceased as a childhood friend, expressed disbelief and sorrow over the loss.

“I have just learnt of the tragic passing of my childhood friend, Christinah Kanini,” he wrote. “It is difficult to comprehend such a painful tragedy.”

Kinyua remembered Kanini as a friend who would not be forgotten and extended his condolences to her loved ones.

“Rest in peace, Innah. You will be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to your family and friends. May God grant them strength during this incredibly difficult time,” he added.

Another mourner, Trizah Njeri, shared an emotional message after learning of the deaths. She revealed that she had spoken to one of the deceased only a day before the tragedy.

She prayed for comfort for the bereaved families and for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.

“I spoke with you just yesterday for the last time. Morning greetings turned into final goodbyes. This is heartbreaking news,” she wrote. “I send my sincere condolences to the family of Innah and Lukas Muthusi.”

The incident has left many residents struggling to come to terms with the loss, with neighbours and friends describing the events as devastating and difficult to understand.

Police have urged members of the public to allow investigators time to establish the facts surrounding the deaths as inquiries continue.
