The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Zone E (North-East), has announced plans to stage a peaceful solidarity protest over the abduction of 42 students of Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The planned demonstration, scheduled to hold from June 5 to June 7, will take place simultaneously across the North-East states of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba.
The development was contained in a notice issued by the Chief of Staff to the NANS Zone E Coordinator, Lukman Yusuf, who said the protest is aimed at drawing national attention to the plight of the abducted students and demanding intensified efforts to secure their release.
According to him, the demonstration will also serve as a platform to express solidarity with the families of the victims and advocate stronger measures to protect students across the country.
“The demonstration is aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the abducted students, expressing solidarity with their families, and calling on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts towards their immediate rescue,” the statement said.
The students’ body urged the Federal Government to strengthen security in schools and other educational institutions to prevent future attacks.
NANS also directed its structures across the North-East, including Joint Campus Committee leaders, Students’ Union Government executives, delegates and stakeholders, to mobilise members for the exercise while ensuring that the protests remain peaceful and orderly.
Zonal Coordinator of NANS Zone E, Comrade Muazu Hina, said the association was committed to advocating the safe return of the abducted students and improving security for learners nationwide.
The association noted that the demonstration was intended to sustain public attention on the incident and support efforts aimed at securing the release of the victims.
