The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is working with security agencies to identify and arrest a man seen repeatedly flogging a toddler in a viral video.
NAPTIP said in a statement shared on its X handle on Wednesday that it was working to identify, locate and prosecute the man.
“We have noted the viral video and are working with relevant security agencies to identify, locate, and prosecute the perpetrator to the full extent of the law,” the agency said.
The video, shared on X by @NigeriaStories, shows the man repeatedly beating the toddler with what appears to be a charger cable.
The child falls onto a tiled floor while crying and using her hands to shield her head as the man continues flogging her.
The man is also heard speaking aggressively to the child and saying, “Ori ẹ o ma pe,” a Yoruba expression commonly used as slang for “knocking sense into someone.”
The video has drawn widespread condemnation on social media. Users are calling for the man to be identified and arrested.
NAPTIP urged anyone with information that could help identify or locate the man to contact the agency through direct message, email at [email protected], or its shortcode 627.
