Mercylinda Jerop sadly passed away after spending weeks in hospital, where she had been receiving treatment following a prolonged illness.

The 28-year-old died at Chiang Mai Hospital in Thailand, leaving her family devastated and heartbroken.

Speaking to NGBREAKINGNEWS, a family member said they were still struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss.

“We are very sad and devastated. We are deeply heartbroken by her death. We had hoped things would work out well for her abroad, but sadly that was not the case. We are yet to fully process the news. We have a lot to do, but we have limited time and resources,” the family member said.

When did Jerop travel to Thailand?

Jerop travelled to Thailand in June 2025 in search of greener pastures and to improve her life and that of her loved ones.

She was taken abroad by an agent and, after a few months, secured a teaching job at a school.

She worked as an English teacher and had settled well into her new role, with everything appearing to go smoothly after relocating.

Four months later, however, Jerop fell ill. At first, she did not seek medical attention because she believed it was a minor illness.

However, her condition deteriorated, forcing her to seek treatment. Upon arriving at the hospital, she was immediately admitted because of the severity of her condition.

Doctors conducted several tests and diagnosed her with pneumonia, which had severely affected her lungs.

Jerop was placed on oxygen after doctors determined that she could no longer breathe properly on her own.

Her blood pressure continued to fluctuate as the hospital regularly updated her family on her condition while they prayed for her recovery.

How much does Jerop’s family need?

In May 2026, Jerop was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she spent several weeks before she sadly passed away.

Her family is now appealing for financial assistance to settle the huge hospital bill she left behind and to repatriate her body to Kenya for burial.

They require approximately KSh 1.5 million to clear the hospital expenses and transport Jerop’s body home for a dignified burial.

Although the family has organised several fundraising drives, they are still far from reaching the required amount and are appealing to well-wishers for support.

However, upon arriving overseas, he was allegedly pressured into joining the Russian military with minimal training before being deployed to fight in Ukraine.

Just as his family was expecting him to begin sending money home from the “life-changing opportunity,” they instead received the devastating news that he had died.
