NASIEC fixes date for councillorship bye-election in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, has fixed Oct. 15 for the conduct of a councilorship bye-election for Katakpa Ward in Toto Local Government Area of the state.

The commission announced this in a statement signed by Mr Dahiru Hudu-Musa, Secretary to the Commission, on behalf of its Chairman, Ayuba Wandai, on Tuesday in Lafia.

It said that the bye-election became necessary following the death of the serving councillor representing the ward, which created a vacancy in the councillorship position.

According to the statement, the election will be conducted in all designated polling units within Katakpa Ward in accordance with relevant provisions of the law and guidelines issued by the commission.

NASIEC called on eligible voters, political parties, candidates, traditional and community leaders, security agencies, observers and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, credible and transparent election.

It urged eligible voters in the ward to come out peacefully and exercise their civic responsibility by voting for candidates of their choice.

The commission also urged all political parties and candidates participating in the election to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with the law throughout the electoral process.

It said further information on the timetable, polling arrangements and other details concerning the bye-election would be communicated through its official channels.

The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting the election in accordance with the law and ensuring a credible electoral process.
