The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has reaffirmed that the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme, NOGaPS, located at Emeyal-1 in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is on course to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2026.
As part of efforts to meet the projected take-off date, the Board is set to install a 2.5-megawatt Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, power plant at the facility.
The planned power infrastructure is expected to provide a dependable and sustainable electricity supply for industries that will operate within the park.
Speaking after an inspection tour of the facility by senior officials of the Board, NCDMB’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, said the project had recorded substantial progress across critical infrastructure and support facilities aimed at transforming the park into a major industrial centre for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The Oil and Gas Park Scheme was established to strengthen local content development by creating a dedicated environment for the production of equipment, components and other materials required by the petroleum industry.
The initiative is also expected to generate more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs while contributing to economic development.
While providing an update on the project’s status, the Manager, Strategy and Transformation Projects at NCDMB, Mr. Olubisi Okunola, disclosed that several key facilities have already been completed and are ready for use.
These include manufacturing workshops, a water treatment plant, accommodation facilities, classrooms, an amphitheatre and residential apartments designed for trainers, facilitators and visiting personnel.
Beyond the planned CNG power plant, the Board has completed major electrical infrastructure within the complex, including transformers, a switchgear building and heavy-duty generators, all aimed at ensuring uninterrupted industrial activities.
To further expand the facility’s manufacturing capacity, NCDMB has awarded a contract for the reclamation and sand-filling of ponds within the park. Upon completion, the reclaimed areas will accommodate six new manufacturing sheds intended for investors and service providers operating in the oil and gas value chain.
The Board also noted that landscaping and routine maintenance activities are ongoing across the site to preserve existing assets and maintain operational readiness ahead of commissioning.
Current efforts are focused on completing the remaining utilities and support infrastructure necessary for seamless operations before the park becomes fully functional.
When completed, the facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for indigenous manufacturing, reduce dependence on imported oil and gas components, create employment opportunities and enhance the participation of Nigerian companies across the petroleum industry’s value chain.
NCDMB reiterated its commitment to delivering the project in line with its mandate of building in-country capacity and advancing Nigerian content development in the oil and gas sector.
