The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of refusing to provide the Access Code required to upload and download its candidates on the commission’s online portal.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the NDC had formally approached INEC but had yet to receive any response.
“We have approached INEC, but they are yet to respond to our request. Hopefully, we shall be in court tomorrow (today) to file for a stay of execution of the Lokoja Federal High Court ruling,” he said.
The dispute follows a recent judgment by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which ordered INEC not to recognise the NDC as a political party pending the determination of all legal disputes surrounding its registration.
The court also set aside its earlier December 2025 judgment that had compelled INEC to register the NDC. The decision came after the Peace Movement Party (PMP) claimed ownership of the logo used by the NDC during its registration process.
Despite the ruling, the NDC has maintained that it remains a legally recognised political party and has vowed to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, said the NDC rejects the court’s decision and will immediately file an appeal, insisting that its legal status remains valid.
The legal battle is expected to continue as the NDC seeks a stay of execution of the Lokoja Federal High Court’s ruling while pursuing its appeal before the Court of Appeal.
