A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officer has reportedly been killed during an operation against suspected drug users in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday at Anguwan Zango, Tilden Fulani, during an operation by NDLEA personnel in the community.
A resident familiar with the incident told DAILY POST that trouble started after the operatives arrested one of the youths allegedly involved in drug use in the area.
He said some youths reportedly resisted the arrest and attempted to prevent the officers from taking the suspect away.
According to him, the confrontation turned violent, with one of the youths allegedly attacking an NDLEA operative with a sharp object.
The officer was reportedly stabbed in the stomach during the struggle.
The resident said the attackers fled immediately after the incident, while the other NDLEA personnel remained at the scene and attempted to assist their injured colleague.
He added that the operation was targeted at an area where youths were allegedly known to gather to smoke and consume illicit substances.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA Bauchi Command has launched a search for an unidentified person suspected of being responsible for the killing, releasing his photograph in a wanted-person notice.
The command has since circulated the photograph of the wanted person on its social media platforms as efforts continue to identify and apprehend him.
