The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finalized an enhanced contract package for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, including improved financial terms.
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, disclosed the agreement after a meeting held in Abuja on Monday, stating that the new arrangement provides for an upward review of Chelle’s salary and shifts responsibility for paying his assistants to the federation.
Addressing reporters, Dikko said the NFF will now directly fund the salaries of the coach’s selected backroom staff, bringing an end to the previous system under which Chelle personally handled their wages.
“I can confirm to you that we have agreed new terms with the coach about his new remuneration, to increase his salary, and we will also take care of his assistants,” Dikko said.
He also revealed that new performance benchmarks have been introduced as part of the updated agreement.
“We have also put new benchmarks on the table, and we are sure the coach is excited about it,” he added.
Under the revised structure, Chelle and his technical team will also assume full control of Nigeria’s U23 side ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Chelle, who was appointed Super Eagles head coach in January 2025 on a two-year deal with an optional extension, was initially tasked with qualifying Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a target he did not achieve.
