The organisers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee have opened registration for the next edition of the national competition, inviting parents and schools to register eligible pupils and students for a chance to compete for scholarships, cash prizes and the opportunity to represent Nigeria internationally.
This was disclosed by the organisers on the official Nigeria Spelling Bee registration portal, where they described the competition as an opportunity for students to embark on a journey of language and literacy excellence, whether registering individually or as part of a school group.
They urged interested participants to complete the registration form to secure a spot in the competition, noting that it offers a path toward winning scholarships and the chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.
The organisers advised parents and schools to ensure that participants meet all eligibility requirements before registering, cautioning that applicants should review the eligibility guidelines thoroughly to avoid disqualification.
On the registration fee, the organisers said it costs ₦5,000 per speller, payable through bank deposits, transfers, ATMs or approved gift vouchers.
Applicants were advised to keep proof of payment safe, as it would be required both for the online registration process and on the day of the competition.
They also cautioned participants to keep their payment details secure, stressing that the organisers would not be responsible for issues arising from exposed payment information.
Late or venue registration, where permitted, would attract an additional ₦1,000, bringing the total fee to ₦6,000 per participant.
On the registration process, the organisers explained that each speller must register individually through the designated online portal, after which they would receive a Unique Speller-ID for identification during the competition.
Participants are also expected to present their confirmation slips and proof of payment at the competition venue.
Regarding prizes, the organisers said winners would receive scholarships, cash rewards and international opportunities.
The National Champion in the Senior category will receive a ₦1 million scholarship, while the Junior category champion will get ₦500,000.
The Primary category winner will receive ₦150,000 in cash.
All finalists will qualify to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee, while national champions will become Nigeria Spelling Bee ambassadors for life and receive trophies and medals.
The organisers also invited schools interested in hosting the competition to submit applications, adding that schools registering more than 10 participants could reach out for information on available bulk registration discounts.
They reminded applicants that registration must be completed online before participants can receive their Speller IDs and competition materials, stressing that payments are non-refundable.
