More than 51,000 people gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Saturday for screening of the Nollywood crime thriller Black Market.
The event set a new Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a movie screening.
The record was announced at the venue after a Guinness World Records official confirmed that more than 51,000 people attended the screening, surpassing the organisers’ target of 50,000.
Black Market depicts the story of five market women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation as they struggle with fuel scarcity and economic hardship.
The story takes a dramatic turn after the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped.
The film was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Nora Awolowo. It was produced by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios and FilmOne Studios, with FilmOne handling distribution.
The cast includes Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D Icon, and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
Gates opened at 2pm, the red carpet began at about 3pm, and the screening was held between 7pm and 8.30pm.
Following the announcement, FilmOne celebrated the milestone.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat attended the event alongside actors Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, Tomi Ojo, Emeka and other celebrities.
