The wife of a Nigerian returnee has narrated how repeated kidnapping incidents involving her family devastated his finances and forced him to start life afresh as a commercial tricycle operator.
According to a statement shared by his wife, Chinenye Glory, on Facebook, her husband had travelled back to Nigeria in 2019 to visit his family but was kidnapped the same year.
He was later released after a huge ransom was paid, a development that reportedly disrupted his plans to return abroad.
The wife said that just as he was recovering and preparing to travel again, his elder brother was abducted by suspected kidnappers who demanded ransom. The man allegedly sold his resources and assets to secure his brother’s freedom, citing concern for the victim’s young children and wife.
However, despite the payment of ransom, the brother was reportedly killed, and the family was unable to recover his body. The incident left the man financially drained and heavily indebted.
His wife explained that the debt was eventually cleared, but the family was left with little to survive on.
In a bid to rebuild, he reportedly borrowed a small amount of money to purchase a second-hand commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke, which he currently operates.
She added that the tricycle has developed faults in recent days, worsening the family’s financial strain.
The family appealed for support, noting that the series of kidnappings had drastically changed their lives and reduced her husband from a comfortable lifestyle to struggling for daily survival.
