Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has been elected Chairman of the organisation’s Budget and Administration Committee.
The appointment places him in charge of key financial, budgetary and administrative oversight functions within the UN system.
In a statement following his election, Ibrahim expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, describing the development as a significant milestone.
He said: “It is an honour for me to be elected Chairman of Budget and Administration of the United Nations. I sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.”
Referring to the President’s reform agenda, he added that lessons from Nigeria’s policy direction would guide his approach to budgeting, appropriations and human resources matters at the global body.
Ibrahim also thanked Nigerians for the achievement, noting that he would work with representatives of all 193 member states to provide strategic leadership in addressing complex global administrative and financial challenges.
Nigeria hailed the development as a notable diplomatic gain, with the envoy pledging to uphold transparency and efficiency in his new role.
