The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted a mix of sunshine, cloudy conditions and thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Sunday through Tuesday.
According to report by The Punch, NiMet’s weather outlook issued on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said the northern region would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds on Sunday morning, while thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected across parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.
For the North-Central region, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory, with similar weather conditions extending to Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT in the afternoon and evening.

In the South, moderate rainfall is expected on Sunday morning in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa states, before spreading across the entire region later in the day.
On Monday, the agency forecast morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba states, while afternoon and evening storms are expected across Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa.
NiMet also predicted morning thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory in the North-Central region, with widespread thunderstorms expected across the region later in the day.
For the southern states, light rainfall is forecast in parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers on Monday morning, followed by moderate thunderstorms across the region later in the day.
On Tuesday, the agency said the northern region would experience partly cloudy skies in the morning, with light thunderstorms expected in parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe states before more widespread moderate rainfall develops later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to start the day with sunny intervals and patches of clouds before thunderstorms spread across the region during the afternoon and evening.
In the South, cloudy conditions are expected on Tuesday morning, with light rainfall likely in parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, while moderate thunderstorms are forecast across the region later in the day.
NiMet advised residents to take necessary precautions, warning that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas. It also cautioned that persistent rainfall along the southern coast could trigger flash floods and urged motorists to avoid driving through flooded roads or during heavy downpours.
The agency further advised residents to unplug electrical appliances during storms and avoid taking shelter under tall trees because of the risk of falling branches or uprooted trees.
It also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid flight planning, while encouraging the public to stay updated through the agency’s weather forecasts.
