…As 1,477 Nigerians Enrol
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks following a high turnout of applicants.
The exercise, which is being held in London and Manchester, will now run till October 3, 2026, instead of ending on September 19.
The NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Akinlabi said 1,477 Nigerians had been processed and enrolled within the first four days of the exercise, adding that more than half had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their addresses.
He said the extension was approved by the NIS under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in response to the turnout and demand for the service.
The exercise was initially affected by challenges on its first day, but the NIS said it was subsequently progressing.
Eligible applicants have been advised to book appointments through the website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom and present their completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
Passport applications and payments are fully automated and cashless, according to the NIS.
The applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year validity passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet. The NIS said no additional charges were required to participate in the exercise.
The NIS said information on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures will be communicated through the official channels and the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.
