The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media and some news outlets claiming that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in Doma Local Government Area, were abducted.
The false alarm follows earlier panic in Rukubi after unverified reports suggested that armed men had stormed Peter’s Foundation Secondary School and kidnapped several students.
In an e-signed statement, the Police Command clarified the facts. According to the statement, the incident occurred on 21 November 2025 at about 10:00 am when two pupils, while engaging in sporting activities, sighted hunters carrying Dane guns. Mistaking them for kidnappers, the pupils fled, sparking the panic.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately deployed a combined team of police and military personnel to the scene. The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was restored. The proprietor of the school confirmed to authorities that no abduction had taken place.
“The general area continues to be closely monitored to forestall any breach of security,” the statement said.
The Police Command urged the public to disregard the circulating report as a mere rumour and called on journalists and media outlets to verify information before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.
