Nollywood actor and popular content creator Odira Nwobu, also known as Joseph Olonlo, was finally laid to rest on April 11, 2026, in his hometown of Awka, Anambra State.
The burial took place in Umubelle Village, following months of delays after his sudden death in South Africa. Family, colleagues from the film industry, friends, and fans gathered to bid farewell to the beloved entertainer.
Nwobu, born on May 24, 1982, in Enugu State, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 43 in Benoni, near Johannesburg. He was on a trip when he complained of chest pain and was found gasping for breath in his hotel room. Paramedics attempted resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial reports pointed to high blood pressure complications, but later autopsy findings reportedly suggested poisoning, sparking controversy and calls for further investigation. His remains were repatriated to Nigeria amid emotional tributes.
A versatile talent, Nwobu began his acting career shortly after secondary school, debuting professionally in Joseph the Dreamer and featured in over 60 movies.
His death, coming months after surviving a serious car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, sent shockwaves through Nollywood.
