Popular Nigerian actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has proposed to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) the introduction of a law granting all actors and actresses lifetime royalties from movies they feature in, particularly those uploaded on streaming platforms.
He also called for the establishment of a dedicated agency to enforce the policy nationwide. According to Kanayo, the move would allow talents to earn sustainably from their work long after active roles dry up, preventing the financial hardship many veterans face.

The proposal has sparked widespread discussion online, highlighting systemic issues in Nollywood where actors often receive one-time payments only.
In a recent interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, veteran actress Patience Ozokwor (Mama G) echoed these concerns. She lamented that Nollywood actors “don’t get royalties” and are only paid for showing up on set.
“The reason why Nollywood actors and actresses beg is because we don’t get royalties for what we do,” she said, adding that this forces many veterans into financial distress despite their contributions.
Implementation would require strong collaboration between AGN, producers, and regulators.
