The Nigeria Revenue Service has sealed the headquarters of Kaduna Electric in Kaduna over alleged failure by the electricity distribution company to settle its outstanding statutory tax obligations.
The enforcement action followed an order issued by the NRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji.
A non-compliance notice placed at the entrance of the company’s premises stated that the action was taken in line with the Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act and other applicable tax laws.
The notice accused the company’s owners and operators of failing to fulfil their tax responsibilities despite earlier notifications from the revenue authority.
“Take notice that the owners of this company/operators of this company or business premises have failed to comply with their statutory obligations as prescribed under the extant tax laws,” the notice stated.
The NRS warned that company officials or agents found to have violated tax regulations could face prosecution and other penalties prescribed by law.
The revenue authority also cautioned against tampering with the enforcement process, directing that the sealed notice must not be removed without proper authorisation.
It advised taxpayers or business operators seeking clarification or wishing to resolve outstanding obligations to contact its Debt Management and Enforcement Department in Abuja or visit the nearest enforcement office.
The development comes shortly after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission announced a regulatory intervention in the affairs of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
NERC, through Interim Order No. NERC/2026/086, dissolved the company’s Board of Directors following what it described as serious operational inefficiencies, failure to meet stipulated capital expenditure requirements and accumulated market liabilities of more than N456.5bn.
The order was signed by the NERC Chairman, Dr Musiliu Oseni, and the Commissioner for Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Mr Dafe Akpeneye.
The commission said the intervention was carried out under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023.
As part of the intervention, NERC appointed an interim management team headed by Mr Abubakar Umar Hashidu as Administrator to take charge of the company’s operations and oversee its restructuring.
The interim team is responsible for operations in Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states while measures are implemented to address the company’s financial and operational challenges.
