The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a suspect for allegedly assaulting its personnel during an intelligence-led operation that led to the interception of a truck carrying 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations, SC Okadigbo Edwin.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Sunday Ukeh, was arrested and paraded for allegedly attacking NSCDC operatives while they were carrying out their lawful duties.
The command said the operation was conducted by the Anti-Vandalism Squad, led by CSC Nwosu Christian, following credible intelligence.
During the operation, officers intercepted a truck loaded with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated petrol at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka.
Commandant Maku warned members of the public against obstructing NSCDC personnel in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that the command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness or attacks on its officers.
“The command will not tolerate any form of lawlessness or coordinated attacks against its personnel in the course of discharging their lawful duties,” he said.
He commended the Anti-Vandalism Squad for its vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illegal activities in the petroleum sector across Anambra State.
The NSCDC said investigations into the case are ongoing.
