NSCDC arrests suspect over alleged theft of 60 litres of diesel from telecom facility in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have arrested one Esosa Godsent Osagie for the alleged theft of about 60 litres of diesel from a telecommunications facility in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Efosa Ogbebor, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Benin City, said the suspect stole the diesel from an IHS Towers facility in Utesi on the outskirts of the Edo State capital.

Ogbebor said the suspect was arrested on June 13, 2026, following reports of repeated theft incidents at the facility.

He said the operation that led to the arrest of the suspect jointly involved operatives of the command’s security team and local vigilantes.

According to him, the command had received reports of repeated theft incidents at the facility and, acting on intelligence, the suspect was apprehended through the collaborative efforts of the command’s security team and local vigilante operatives.

“Preliminary investigations are ongoing to verify statements obtained from the suspect and identify any accomplices connected to the crime,” he said.

The NSCDC image maker, however, reiterated the resolve of the state command, under the leadership of State Commandant Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements.

He added that the command would not relent in its efforts until all economic saboteurs are identified, apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law through due process.

Ogbebor, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to security agencies to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting critical national assets across the state.
