The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a manhunt for suspected vandals who allegedly stole an armoured cable valued at about ₦1 million from a transformer at Government Unity School, Ringim, in Jigawa State.
The Jigawa State Command disclosed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, on Friday, July 31.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Thursday when more than 10 suspected vandals reportedly stormed the school premises, overpowered security personnel and carted away about 12 metres of a 75mm² armoured cable connected to the school’s transformer.
The command said the stolen cable is estimated to be worth between ₦900,000 and ₦1.05 million, describing the theft as a major loss to government property.

It added that operatives from the NSCDC Ringim Divisional Office responded to the scene after receiving a distress call and immediately commenced preliminary investigations.
The investigation, according to the command, revealed that the suspects subdued the three security guards stationed at different locations within the school before carrying out the operation.
Reacting to the incident, the Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, condemned the attack, describing it as “a criminal assault on critical national assets and infrastructure.”
Ingawa urged security personnel deployed to schools and other public institutions to remain alert and promptly notify security agencies of suspicious movements or gatherings around their duty posts.
He also appealed to residents to support security agencies with credible and timely information capable of preventing vandalism and other criminal activities.
The commandant assured the public that the Corps had commenced an intensive operation to track down those responsible for the theft.
According to the statement, the command has “launched an intensive manhunt to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those connected with the crime before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
Ingawa reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure across Jigawa State and urged members of the public to remain security conscious by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest NSCDC office or other security agencies.
