Sister Leticia Ugboaja, a Catholic nun based in McAllen, has been released from U.S. immigration custody after she was detained while walking to Mass on Sunday.
Officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stopped Ugboaja and arrested her, a development that quickly sparked reactions online and within the local Catholic community.
Church officials and lawmakers, intervened on her behalf, leading to her release.
The nun, who is also a registered nurse, has since returned home.
