Nwaọgụ accepts IPOB leadership role, prioritises Kanu’s release

Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ has formally accepted his appointment as Head of the Fourth Administration of the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra, outlining a roadmap focused on the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and renewed engagement on self-determination issues.
Nwaọgụ’s acceptance followed his appointment by Kanu as part of a broader reorganisation of the group’s leadership structure announced on Wednesday.
In a video released on Thursday, Nwaọgụ described the appointment as a sacred responsibility and expressed gratitude to Kanu for the confidence reposed in him.
He said the new administration would place priority on efforts to secure the release of Kanu and other detained members of the organisation, while strengthening advocacy on issues relating to self-determination.
According to him, the administration would also intensify international engagement, particularly in Europe, the United States and other regions, to advance awareness of the group’s objectives.
Nwaọgụ said the new leadership would focus on addressing misinformation about the organisation through structured communication and public engagement.
He also stressed the importance of unity and discipline within the group, warning against actions capable of undermining its objectives.
Reaffirming IPOB’s position on self-determination, Nwaọgụ maintained that a referendum remained the most peaceful and democratic means of determining the political future of the Igbo people.
He added that the group would continue to pursue its objectives through peaceful advocacy and structured engagement.
The new IPOB leader also commended members of the outgoing Directorate of State administration for their contributions and sacrifices, noting that details of the new leadership structure would be announced through the organisation’s official communication channels.
