Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, in what insiders describe as part of ongoing political consultations ahead of future elections.
The meeting, which involved allies of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is believed to be geared towards strengthening opposition collaboration and promoting a people-centred political agenda.
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and member of the movement, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed details of the engagement in a statement issued shortly after the meeting.
He described the parley as “strategic and impactful,” noting that discussions centred on national unity, inclusive governance and the need to reposition Nigeria’s political direction.
“The OK Movement today held a powerful and strategic meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, reaffirming our shared commitment to a stronger, more united, and progressive Nigeria,” Johnson said.
According to him, Obasanjo offered insights drawn from his years in leadership, which he said would help shape the movement’s vision and operational strategy.
Johnson added that the interaction would further energise efforts to mobilise Nigerians, particularly supporters of what he termed the “new Nigerian movement,” towards national development and prosperity.
“The wisdom, experience and leadership perspectives shared during the meeting will strengthen our resolve to build a people-centred and forward-looking movement dedicated to advancing the Nigerian cause,” he stated.
He reiterated the group’s commitment to promoting inclusive growth and empowering citizens across the country, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future.
The meeting comes amid intensifying political consultations and shifting alliances among opposition figures seeking to redefine the country’s political landscape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Although details of the discussions were not made public, the engagement signals increasing coordination between the Obi-Kwankwaso bloc and influential national stakeholders.
