The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come down from the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, to meet Nigerians grappling with daily hardship.
Atiku made this disclosure in his remarks to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to him, the policies of President Tinubu have brought nothing to Nigerians but pain over the last three years.
He faulted Tinubu’s Independence Day remark, in which the President said the country had crossed its difficulties and was now approaching prosperity.
Atiku noted that prosperity is still far from Nigerians battling with the effects of Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies that have made the cost of living difficult.
The ADC presidential candidate alleged that economic policy decisions taken by Tinubu’s government were made without the involvement of Nigerians.
“Bola Tinubu says Nigeria has crossed the Red Sea and that there must be ‘no looking back.’ Let him come down from Aso Rock and meet the Nigerians still struggling to get to the other side. Looking back at a government’s record is a citizen’s right. It is how we decide whether those who hold power deserve more time.
“Bola, the Promised Land is not in sight merely because you can see it from the villa. Nigerians must be able to reach it. The message is clear: Tinubu must go,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that Tinubu, in his Independence Day remark, said Nigeria had passed through the Red Sea and that prosperity was next.
Tinubu, who is seeking re-election in the January 16 presidential election, also ruled out a return of fuel subsidies.
