The Ogun State Government has earmarked ₦987.185 million for palliative support for public servants between April and December 2026, with ₦327.31 million allocated for the fourth quarter as the administration seeks to cushion the impact of prevailing economic challenges on workers.
The Head of Service, Alhaji Olanrewaju Iskeel Saka, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, describing the continued intervention as part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
According to the statement, the government allocated ₦330.63 million for April to June, ₦329.245 million for July to September, and ₦327.31 million for October to December 2026.
The three quarterly allocations bring the total provision for the nine-month period to ₦987.185 million.
The intervention is intended to help public servants cope with mounting financial pressures, including transportation costs and other essential household expenses, amid persistent concerns about the cost of living.
The government also said the programme reflects its recognition of workers’ welfare as an important factor in productivity, effective public service delivery and the implementation of its development agenda.
However, the allocation raises an important distinction between funds earmarked for a welfare programme and the actual amount disbursed to beneficiaries. The government’s disclosure did not specify how much had already been paid to workers, the number of beneficiaries covered or the amount received by each eligible public servant.
Details of the distribution and the criteria used to determine eligibility would provide a clearer picture of the programme’s reach and its impact on workers.
With the fourth-quarter allocation extending the intervention through December, the Abiodun administration is maintaining a financial support measure aimed at easing some of the pressures confronting public servants.
The effectiveness of the programme will ultimately depend not only on the funds allocated but also on timely disbursement, transparent implementation and the tangible relief delivered to workers across Ogun State.
