Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende, has been conferred with honorary citizenship of the State of Georgia, United States, in recognition of his contributions to entrepreneurship, philanthropy, economic development and community service.
The honour was bestowed on the Ogun State-born entrepreneur during an official legislative session of the Georgia State Senate on July 14, 2026, through Georgia Senate District 28 led by Senator Dr. Donzella James.
The recognition followed a Special Commendation issued on December 1, 2025, which acknowledged Egungbohun’s leadership, humanitarian service and contributions to communities in Nigeria and beyond.
According to the citation read by Senator James, the Georgia State Senate recognised the Nigerian businessman as a goodwill ambassador whose integrity, leadership and commitment to humanitarian causes reflect the ideals of international friendship, cooperation and community development.
The latest recognition marks another milestone for Egungbohun, an indigene of Ebute-Igbooro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, whose rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous entrepreneurs has earned him local and international acclaim.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Egungbohun thanked Senator James, the Georgia State Senate and the people of Atlanta for the recognition.
He reaffirmed his commitment to investing in human capital, promoting global trade partnerships and supporting vulnerable communities across the world.
“I remain committed to creating opportunities for people, strengthening international partnerships and making meaningful contributions to humanity,” he said.
Egungbohun received his primary and secondary education in his hometown before venturing into business.
He established IBD Farms in 2003, which later expanded into IBD IMPEX LTD, a conglomerate with interests in logistics, hospitality, quarrying, real estate and other sectors.
The group, according to available records, has generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs while contributing to commercial growth and infrastructure development.
Beyond his business interests, Egungbohun is widely known for his philanthropic activities through the Ibrahim Dende Foundation in Nigeria and IBD Global Impact International in Canada.
The organisations have supported scholarship programmes, healthcare initiatives, youth empowerment schemes, humanitarian interventions, business mentorship as well as assistance for widows and vulnerable families.
His contributions to community development previously earned him the traditional title of Oluomo of Yewaland, conferred by the Yewa Traditional Council.
He has also received several national and international honours, including the Green and White Champion Award, recognition from the City of Brampton in Canada and awards from the Oduduwa Development Initiatives for his leadership and humanitarian service.
