Tensions are rising in Ogun East Senatorial District following renewed political alignments ahead of the next electoral cycle, as supporters of former Governor and current Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), have strongly criticised recent endorsement activities said to favour Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON.
In a statement circulated by a supporter identified as Mr. Adebola Odunsi from Odogbolu, allegations were made that recent endorsement gatherings in Ijebu Ode were “selective,” suggesting that participation was largely limited to political appointees and individuals perceived to be within the governor’s influence.
The group contrasted this with a recent political endorsement event for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (“Yayi”), where several political stakeholders—including former and serving public office holders and aspirants—were reportedly present, describing it as more inclusive in structure and representation.
According to the statement, supporters of OGD argue that the approach they attribute to the governor’s camp reflects “growing political desperation,” a claim that has not been independently verified.
They further insisted that Senator Gbenga Daniel remains a key contender for a second term in the Senate, citing what they described as his performance and continued influence in Ogun East politics. His supporters also maintain that continuity in representation is necessary, particularly regarding long-standing regional aspirations such as the proposed creation of Ijebu-Remo State.
The statement also referenced historical political grievances tied to past state creation efforts, drawing comparisons between earlier and current advocacy for restructuring within the district.
Reacting through the same political bloc, supporters reaffirmed confidence that Senator Daniel remains well-positioned ahead of the next elections, insisting that “no amount of political machinery” would alter voter sentiment in the district.
Meanwhile, political observers note that the unfolding exchanges reflect deeper factional realignments within Ogun East, as key stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the office of Governor Dapo Abiodun regarding the claims made by the group.
