Chief Robert Obasi, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, has called on all Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process ahead of forthcoming elections.
According to Chief Obasi, democracy thrives when citizens are given the freedom and opportunity to participate without fear, intimidation, or discrimination.
He called on all political parties and political actors to ensure that the democratic space remains open and inclusive for all groups and individuals.
Chief Obasi stated that no political party should suppress opposition voices or deny any group the right to participate fully in the electoral process.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Secretary General emphasized that peace, stability, and unity of Nigeria are important to national progress and urged those in power to avoid actions that could create tension.
He said the forthcoming general election should be free, fair, transparent, and credible in line with constitutional provisions.
Chief Obasi noted that every eligible Nigerian should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote and to have their votes counted.
He also called on electoral institutions to remain independent and committed to upholding the will of the people during elections.
The Secretary General particularly urged Ndigbo and all Nigerians who have not yet obtained their Permanent Voter Cards to do so in preparation for the elections.
According to him, voting remains one of the most powerful tools citizens possess to shape the future of their nation.
Chief Obasi advised Nigerians to support and vote for candidates based on competence, integrity, and commitment to national development.
He stated that there should be no intimidation, harassment, or persecution of any citizen because of political beliefs, ethnic background, religion, or region.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Secretary General said democracy flourishes when citizens are free to express opinions, support candidates of their choice, and participate peacefully in political activities.
He concluded by saying that Nigeria belongs to all citizens and called for collective commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law, adding that unity and dialogue should be prioritized.
