The Women Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, High Chief Princess Rosemary Nkem Igweh, has congratulated Chief Chukwudi Chinye on his emergence as President of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State.
In a statement issued from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State office on Monday, High Chief Igweh described Chief Chinye’s election as a victory for unity, inclusion and the continued progress of Ndigbo in Lagos and across the Diaspora.
High Chief Princess Rosemary Nkem Igweh, who also holds the chieftaincy titles of Omu-Nmiri Anioma 1 of Lagos State and Diaspora, and Ada Nawete Ihe 1 of Ikeja Palace, Lagos State, said the new leadership comes at a time when the Igbo community in Lagos needs strong, purposeful and collaborative representation.
She noted that the Igbo Speaking Community plays a vital role in promoting the welfare, cultural identity and political participation of Igbo people residing in Lagos. According to her, Chief Chinye’s experience, accessibility and commitment to service make him well suited to lead the organization at this period.
“On behalf of the women of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State and in my capacity as Women Leader, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Chief Chukwudi Chinye on his well-deserved emergence as President of the Igbo Speaking Community,” she said.
“Your election reflects the confidence that our people have in your leadership capacity. We believe that under your watch, the Igbo Speaking Community will continue to be a strong voice for Ndigbo in Lagos, and a bridge that connects our people to government, other ethnic groups and opportunities for growth.”
High Chief Igweh urged Chief Chinye to prioritize unity among all Igbo subgroups in Lagos, strengthen collaboration with Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo socio-cultural organizations, and focus on programs that will uplift women, youths and the less privileged within the community.
She further emphasized the need for synergy between the Igbo Speaking Community and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos in addressing issues affecting Ndigbo, including business protection, security, education and political representation.
“As mothers and leaders of our various families and groups, we are ready to work with you to ensure that the interests of Ndigbo are protected and advanced. Women have a critical role to play in peacebuilding, mobilization and community development, and we will give your administration the needed support to succeed,” she added.
The Women Leader also called on members of the Igbo Speaking Community to rally behind the new president and give him the cooperation required to deliver on his mandate. She said internal divisions and personal interests should be set aside in favor of collective progress.
“We must remember that Lagos is home to one of the largest Igbo populations outside Igboland. What we do here reflects on all Ndigbo. Let us therefore speak with one voice, act with one purpose, and build institutions that will outlive us,” High Chief Igweh stated.
She prayed for wisdom, good health and strength for Chief Chinye as he assumes office, and expressed optimism that his tenure will bring greater visibility and respect for Ndigbo in Lagos State.
Chief Chukwudi Chinye’s emergence has continued to attract goodwill messages from across Igbo groups, community leaders and stakeholders who described it as a step toward stronger representation and service delivery for the Igbo in Lagos.
