Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, on Thursday, implied that oil prices are currently influenced by President Donald Trump’s state of mind.
Speaking in the capital, Bratislava, Fico observed that the international community is under pressure from market rates, which depend on “how Trump sleeps.”
“When he sleeps well, prices go down,” the PM told the audience. “When he doesn’t and makes some statement, oil automatically goes up.”
Fico made the remarks while weighing in on the war in Iran, the Ukraine conflict, and the disagreement in Europe over direct engagement with Russia.
He faulted the heads of government for declining dialogue with President Vladimir Putin and defended his regular contact and meetings with the Russian premier despite criticisms.
“When I return after meeting with Putin, everyone in the restrooms in Brussels asks me what he said,” Fico revealed, adding: “Why do they not go and communicate with him?”
The Slovak leader, however, confirmed he’ll attend Russia’s May 9 Victory Day celebration. This year’s event will be held without military equipment, the first time in nearly two decades.
The European Union, meanwhile, said the alliance would not humiliate itself by begging Russia to talk but instead put Moscow in a position where the negotiations become inevitable.
EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the issue in Cyprus, European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas hinted during a meeting of Baltic and Nordic Foreign Ministers in Estonia.
