Oba Okunade Sijuwade, CFR (1 January 1930 – 28 July 2015), was the 50th Ooni of Ife, ascending the throne in 1980 with the regnal name Olubuse II. As the traditional ruler of Ile-Ife, he reigned for 35 years until his passing in 2015.
He was crowned on December 6, 1980, in a historic ceremony attended by prominent traditional rulers, including the Emir of Kano, the Oba of Benin, the Amayanabo of Opobo, and the Olu of Warri, alongside representatives of the British monarch. The event underscored the enduring cultural and diplomatic significance of the Ooni’s throne within Nigeria and beyond.
