One person was confirmed dead while several others sustained injuries after a commercial bus conveying 21 passengers somersaulted and caught fire along the Oko-Olowo Expressway in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The accident occurred on Sunday around Iye-Maja Junction when the bus, with registration number DTH840SA, reportedly suffered a punctured tyre while in motion.
The punctured tyre caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the bus somersaulting before it caught fire.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Monday, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said the Service received a distress call and immediately mobilised to the scene.
Adekunle said one person died in the accident, while several others sustained injuries.
The cause of the tyre puncture was not disclosed.
