The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that the newly commissioned houses for Nigerian Appeal Court judges were provided as a commemorative gift to mark the 50th anniversary of the Court of Appeal.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Wike addressed discussions surrounding the housing project, stating that the development was intended to celebrate a significant milestone in the history of the judiciary.
“The Appeal Court Judges houses are only a gift for 50th anniversary of the appeal court,” the minister said at the event.
The housing project was commissioned in the presence of top government officials and members of the judiciary. The development forms part of ongoing infrastructure and welfare initiatives within the Federal Capital Territory under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike’s remarks come amid public conversations about government spending, judicial welfare, and the relationship between the executive and judicial arms of government. By describing the houses as a commemorative gift, the minister sought to explain the rationale behind the project and its connection to the Court of Appeal’s golden jubilee celebration.
The commissioning ceremony featured inspections of the completed housing units, which are expected to provide improved accommodation for members of the appellate court.
