Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to mansl@ughter in the 2022 st@bbing d€ath of her Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.
Clenney, who was previously facing a second-degree m¥rder charge, accepted a plea deal in a Miami courtroom. Under the agreement, she will serve six years in prison followed by five years of probation.
She will also undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations and treatment after her release. Additionally, she will not be allowed to financially benefit from the case.
Obumseli was st@bbed to d€ath inside the couple’s Miami apartment in April 2022. Clenney was arrested days later in Hawaii and charged with second-degree m¥rder.
She maintained that she acted in self-defence, alleging that Obumseli had been abusive. Her attorney, Frank Prieto, previously argued that she threw the knife to protect herself.
“It shows the court that our client is in fact credible, her self-defense is credible, and the action she took that night was necessary to save her own life,” Prieto said in 2024.
However, attorney Larry Handfield, who represented Obumseli’s family, rejected the claim.
“That’s inconsistent with common sense,” he said. “There’s no way that you would, if you throw a knife, that the knife is going to land so deep in a downward position.”
The case attracted significant attention, with video of a confrontation between the couple shown in court and other evidence released after Clenney’s arrest highlighting the troubled nature of their relationship.
Her lawyers announced a plea agreement at the end of July as the case approached trial.
Responding to the deal, Obumseli’s family attorney said, “Pleading guilty and accepting full responsibility will begin the process of bringing closure to a very tragic life-changing event for the Obumseli family.”
