OOPOLY Moves to Strengthen Programme Accreditation, Meets NBTE

Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic (OOPOLY), Aba, has begun a fresh accreditation exercise for its academic programmes and resource verification for newly introduced courses, as the institution seeks to strengthen compliance with national technical education standards.

The exercise, which commenced on Friday, October 23, 2026, involved a delegation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), led by Elder Ayo Aroge, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes.

Receiving the team, the Rector, Okoro Kalu, said his administration was committed to ensuring that every department met the requirements for accreditation.

He described the exercise as part of efforts to position the institution among leading polytechnics in Nigeria and Africa, adding that the assessment would help identify areas requiring improvement.

Kalu said the institution had undergone an accreditation exercise in the previous year and would sustain the process to ensure that its academic programmes met the required standards.

He urged the assessors to point out deficiencies in the institution’s academic and operational processes, assuring them that management was willing to implement necessary corrections.

In his response, Aroge commended the institution’s management and staff for their efforts towards meeting the Board’s requirements, particularly in adopting digital processes.

He also urged the Heads of Department whose programmes were scheduled for assessment to provide the necessary documentation and resources to facilitate the exercise.

The assessment covers existing academic programmes and resource verification for newly introduced programmes.
