Mrs. Rachael Alamu, one of the survivors of the Oriire abduction, has recounted the 56-day ordeal in captivity, describing how the victims endured harsh conditions in the forest under the sun and rain while relying on faith for survival.
She said some of the children were beaten by the kidnappers for making noise, while the male victims were blindfolded, handcuffed and chained for most of their captivity. She, however, said there was no sexual assault.
Mrs. Alamu also revealed that the victims were forced to trek for hours through the forest whenever the kidnappers changed locations to avoid detection. She admitted the experience has left her traumatised and said returning to teach in a remote community would require “the grace of God.”
