The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been challenged at the state governorship election petition tribunal following the filing of separate petitions by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The two petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting in motion the legal process arising from the August 15 governorship election.
The development followed confirmation by Pefe Belemore, secretary of the tribunal, that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the party’s candidate in the election, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Similarly, the PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and Accord.
The display of the petitions is expected to pave the way for the service of relevant court processes on the parties and subsequent proceedings before the tribunal.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner after securing 511,067 votes in the August 15 poll.
The filing of the APC petition comes days after Oyebamiji said he had accepted the outcome of the election and congratulated Adeleke.
In a statement issued on August 29, Oyebamiji said he accepted the result while expressing concern over the violence recorded during the election.
“While we accept the outcome of the election and congratulate the winner, we cannot forget the painful incidents of violence and the lives that were lost,” he said.
The APC candidate, however, said his camp would continue to pursue “justice and fairness through lawful and constitutional means” where there were legitimate concerns.
Following his re-election, Adeleke had appealed to Oyebamiji and other candidates to set aside their differences and support his administration.
