Osun election: Davido writes US President Donald Trump as tension builds

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump over concerns surrounding the upcoming election in Osun State.

Davido made the appeal in a public statement addressed directly to Trump, urging the United States and the international community to pay close attention to developments in the state ahead of the poll.

The singer expressed concern about the possibility of tension, violence and intimidation during the election period.

Davido calls for international attention

In his statement, Davido urged Trump to take note of the situation in Osun State and encouraged relevant authorities to protect voters throughout the electoral process.

He said the people of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear.

Davido wrote: “A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.

There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”

The singer further appealed to the United States and the wider international community to monitor the election closely.

‘We do not want bloodshed’

Davido stressed that the people of Osun State want a peaceful and credible electoral process rather than violence or intimidation.

He called on authorities to ensure the safety of voters and protect the integrity of the ballot.

He added: “I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.

We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election. @realDonaldTrump.”

The appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun State election, with concerns over security and the conduct of the electoral process remaining important issues.

Davido’s intervention has also drawn attention to the role of international observers and diplomatic partners in encouraging peaceful elections and respect for democratic principles.

The singer’s message ultimately centred on peace, voter protection and the need for every vote cast by the people of Osun State to be respected.
