Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has said Nigeria’s economic reforms have restored macroeconomic stability and the country’s next priority is translating those gains into jobs, productivity and shared prosperity.
Speaking at the BusinessDay CEO Forum 2026, Oyedele said the focus three years ago was whether reforms could restore stability, but noted that recent economic indicators showed significant progress.
“Three years ago, the question was whether reform could restore stability. Today, the evidence says yes — inflation trending down, a functioning FX market, rebuilding reserves and double-digit GDP growth in USD terms,” he said.
The minister, however, stressed that stabilising the economy was only the beginning.
“But stability is a foundation, not a destination. The task before us now is turning stability into productivity, jobs, and shared prosperity for every Nigerian,”
Oyedele said.
He called on the private sector to play a leading role in driving the country’s next phase of economic growth, insisting that government alone could not deliver sustainable development.
“Nigeria’s next chapter will not be written by government alone. It will be co-authored by enterprise,” he said.
