Oyegun apologises to Nigerians for supporting APC in 2023

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, has apologised to Nigerians for supporting the party’s victory in the 2023 general election.

Mr Oyegun, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said Nigerians were suffering the consequences of what he described as the mistake of voting for President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

He said the 2027 general election offered Nigerians an opportunity to correct the mistake and put the country on the path to development.

Mr Oyegun spoke in Benin City when the ADC received its vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, during a town hall meeting.

“Today, we are suffering from the terrible mistake of 2023 nationwide. Now is the time to rescue the nation by presenting former Vice President Atiku and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to rescue the nation.

“The ADC mission now is to rescue the nation. Yes, we made such a mistake, but we are bringing Atiku, with his vast experience, and Amaechi, who is fearless. We were deceived once, and we won’t allow ourselves to be deceived again,” he said.

The former APC chairman also expressed concern over alleged political intimidation in Edo State, particularly threats involving AK-47 rifles.

He questioned whether the use of intimidation in the political process reflected the kind of environment the people wanted.

In his remarks, Mr Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, criticised the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, saying they were pushing more Nigerians into poverty.

He particularly faulted the removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that the policy had worsened inflation and increased the economic burden on ordinary Nigerians.
