The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called on the police and other security agencies to investigate the killing of its member, Ridwan Adeyemo, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Adeyemo, a commercial motorcyclist and APC member in Ward 06 of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked and killed by armed men on Friday in the Agbokojo area of Ibadan.
The incident occurred around Ita-Barika, where the attackers allegedly inflicted several machete wounds on him. The party claimed that the attack might have been politically motivated, alleging that the assailants were linked to the brother of a senior official of the state government-backed Park Management System (PMS).
Speaking during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family on Saturday, the APC State Secretary, Fatai Adesina, condemned the killing and described the incident as a disturbing development that had left residents shocked and fearful.
Adesina led members of the party’s State Executive Committee on the visit to express sympathy with the bereaved family.
He said, “We received the shocking news of the dastardly act late on Friday night. It became more regrettable when we learnt that the deceased was attacked and hacked down because he was an APC loyalist, as eyewitness accounts said that his killers questioned him on why he chose our party over the APM before inflicting many machete cuts on him and eventually hacking him to death.”
The party secretary said the APC had information that could help identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing. However, he said the party would withhold the details for now to avoid interfering with police investigations.
Adesina described Adeyemo’s death as particularly painful because he left behind an elderly mother and a pregnant wife. He added that people who knew the deceased regarded him as a peaceful and responsible citizen.
“In the last few days, the leadership of our great Party has had cause to call on the security agencies to be proactive in checking the activities of sponsored political thugs and hoodlums who have been threatening members of the opposition parties in Ibadan and other parts of the state, but unfortunately, the worst has happened again, as an innocent man had to pay the supreme price for being a member of the APC in Oyo State,” he said.
The APC urged security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the alleged killers and anyone suspected of sponsoring the attack.
“The onus is now on the security agencies to launch a manhunt for those who killed Adeyemo as well as their sponsors, with a view to making them face the full wrath of the law. On our part, we shall support his family and ensure that those found to be responsible for his death do not go scot-free,” Adesina added.
He also pledged the party’s cooperation with the police, saying the APC would support the investigation and continue to promote peaceful political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
