Oyo APC Vows to Probe Makinde’s Finances After Tenure, Faults ₦100bn Loan

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to hold Governor Seyi Makinde and members of his administration accountable for the state’s finances after he leaves office.

The Press Nigeria reports that the party’s position follows the approval of a fresh ₦100 billion loan by the Oyo State House of Assembly, further fuelling debate over the state government’s borrowing and expenditure.

The loan was approved during plenary on Wednesday by the Assembly, led by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the APC said Makinde and officials of his administration would be required to account for public funds allegedly misappropriated during their time in office.

The party also criticised the governor’s proposed expenditure of ₦4.2 billion on the forthcoming local government election in the state.

Sadare said the APC would pursue accountability for the state’s resources after the expiration of Makinde’s tenure, which is expected in about seven months.

“As a matter of fact, Engr. Makinde and his cronies shall be made to cough out every kobo of the money belonging to our dear state which they have misappropriated while in office immediately after the expiration of his final term in about seven months,” he said.

The APC’s remarks add to the political debate surrounding the state’s finances, particularly the latest borrowing approval and the planned spending on the local government election.

However, the allegations of financial misappropriation remain claims by the opposition party and would require evidence and due process to establish.
