Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election after winning the party’s rerun primary.
Pantami defeated two other aspirants, Usman Aliyu Garry and Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, in the exercise conducted across the state’s 11 local government areas on Tuesday.
Announcing the result at the Gombe State PDP Secretariat, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Temnung Shekarau, said Pantami secured 2,555 votes.
Garry polled 112 votes, while Mailantarki received 389 votes.
The rerun was conducted following a September 24 judgment of the Federal High Court in Gombe, which nullified the earlier primary that produced Pantami and ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh exercise in line with its constitution.
Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed delivered the judgment following legal challenges filed by Garry and Mailantarki.
Pantami had initially emerged as the PDP governorship candidate at the party’s May 26 primary through voice affirmation.
He joined the PDP after leaving the All Progressives Congress, where he had sought the governorship ticket before Jamilu Gwamna emerged as the APC’s consensus candidate.
