The camp of former old Anambra State Governor, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has released a detailed statement accusing Enugu-based property owner and pastor, Basil Ogbuanu, of alleged illegal activities linked to a protracted dispute over land at Patson Estate in Enugu.
In the statement titled “Truth Versus Propaganda: The Real Story of Basil Ogbuanu,” the Nwobodo camp alleged that the dispute originated from a parcel of land originally acquired in the 1970s by Linkana Hotels, a company associated with Nwobodo before he entered politics.
According to the statement, a significant portion of the land was allegedly lost to fraudulent transactions over the years before the remaining property was later acquired by Moss Island and subsequently developed into Patson Estate.
The statement further alleged that Ogbuanu’s cousin, Barrister Amaka Igwe, had previously sought interests in the land through legal means and later purchased a plot in the estate. The Nwobodo camp claimed that attempts were made to refund the purchase money but were unsuccessful.
The statement alleged that Ogbuanu subsequently acquired multiple plots within the estate after appealing directly to Nwobodo and his family. However, the camp claimed that purchasers, including Ogbuanu, were informed that final title documentation would only be completed after the processing of a Certificate of Occupancy and other regulatory approvals.
According to the Nwobodo camp, Ogbuanu later commenced construction of hostel-style buildings within the estate without obtaining the necessary approvals from relevant authorities. The statement alleged that officials of the Capital Territory Authority issued several warnings and marked the structures for removal due to planning violations.
The most serious allegations relate to an incident said to have occurred on January 16, 2026, when Dr. Pat Nwobodo, wife of the former governor, visited the estate alongside a landscape architect, surveyor and a police officer.
The statement claimed that after entering the estate, members of the group were prevented from leaving when the gate was allegedly locked on the instruction of Ogbuanu. It further alleged that a police officer accompanying the delegation was assaulted by individuals said to be working at the construction site.
According to the account, police officers later intervened, rescued those inside the estate and arrested some suspects. The statement alleged that individuals arrested by police implicated Ogbuanu during their interrogation.
The Nwobodo camp further claimed that Ogbuanu was subsequently invited by police for questioning but allegedly failed to honour the invitation before being arrested and charged to court.
The statement maintained that Ogbuanu is currently facing criminal charges and has been granted bail pending the determination of the case.
The Nwobodo camp also accused Ogbuanu of using social media campaigns to influence public opinion regarding the dispute and urged the public to disregard what it described as propaganda surrounding the matter.
