The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has agreed to comply with a Federal High Court judgment nullifying its earlier governorship primary election in Gombe State and ordering a fresh exercise.
The party, in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said it had taken note of the judgment and would study its details before commencing the process of implementing the court’s directives.
The court judgment effectively invalidated the primary that produced former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The PDP described itself as a law-abiding political party committed to the rule of law and respect for the authority of the judiciary.
“Accordingly, the Party will commence the necessary processes towards the conduct of a fresh Governorship Primary in Gombe State in compliance with the judgment,” the statement said.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, due process and fairness, as well as strict adherence to its constitution, electoral guidelines and applicable laws.
It said the date, timetable and other arrangements for the fresh primary would be communicated to aspirants, stakeholders, party members and the general public after necessary preparations had been concluded.
The PDP also appealed to its members and supporters in Gombe State to remain calm, law-abiding and united while the party took steps to implement the judgment.
The party said the fresh primary would be conducted in accordance with the court’s directives and the applicable electoral framework.
