The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has described the recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, on the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a temporary setback, insisting that it will pursue legal remedies to challenge the decision.
The Federal High Court in Lokoja had set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
Presiding Judge, Justice Isah Dashen, ruled that the December 10, 2025 judgment was “constitutionally defective” because it was delivered without hearing from all necessary and interested parties.
Reacting in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, POMR said its legal team was reviewing the judgment and would immediately begin corrective and appellate processes.
The group urged supporters, coalition partners and Nigerians backing its political movement to remain calm while legal steps are being taken.
“We have received the news of today’s bizarre ruling from the court in Lokoja regarding the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” the statement said.
“While our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures, our Principal urges all our supporters, coalition partners, and patriots nationwide to remain absolutely calm and focused.”
POMR said it had anticipated resistance in its bid to challenge the country’s political establishment, describing the ruling as a temporary obstacle rather than the end of its political project. “We always knew that the journey to dismantle a deeply entrenched and grossly underperforming political status quo would be met with fierce institutional resistance and unexpected legal detours.
“Today’s ruling is a hurdle, not a stop sign. Our commitment to providing a transparent, legitimate, and formidable alternative for Nigerians remains unshakeable.”
The statement maintained that the coalition’s political platform remained intact and vowed to pursue all available legal options. “The platform we are building is robust, and our legal rights will be vigorously pursued. Do not be discouraged; the vehicle may face a temporary breakdown, but our destination remains non-negotiable.”
POMR concluded by reassuring supporters that despite the latest legal setback, its resolve to pursue its political objective remained unchanged.
